About me

Hi! I'm Catherine, an Earth Sciences PhD student at the University of Oxford, originally from North Wales.

In March 2024 I completed my (summer) ML training and have been collecting QMDs in Scotland and Wales since.

Growing up in North Wales, I spent time in the mountains from a young age. I grew up through the Scouts, completing my DofE Awards and eventually becoming a Leader.

Over the years I have volunteered with several youth groups in including Scouts, forest schools, and Riding for the Disabled. I am a firm believer that the outdoors should be accessible for all, and am a strong advocate of its ability to boost confidence regardless of prior experience.

I'm fortunate to have a big fieldwork component of my PhD working in remote Scottish and Arctic locations, which I now lead. I also teach on undergraduate fieldtrips to remote locations such as Assynt in the Scottish Highlands.

Before moving to Oxford, I worked as Operations Manager for Zip World UK for three years, where I was responsible for site H&S, instructor training and development, and customer coaching and satisfaction. I hold up to date Mental Health First Aid, REC Outdoor First Aid, and L3 Rope Rescue certificates.

Outside work I am a keen mountaineer, average runner, and postgraduate representative for University College, Oxford.

I am currently looking for ML shadowing opportunities across SE England and North Wales. I'm happy to travel and get stuck in with whatever is needed. It would be great to hear from you if you are looking for support or collaboration opportunities!
